Southeast Asian Wildlife

Ethan did a much better job of avoiding non-avians in Southeast Asia than he did in India but he still ran into a couple mildly interesting animals.

Why couldn’t some of these guys invade North America instead of the Spotted Lanternfly. They are a lot cooler.

An endangered Dusky Leaf Monkey

Ethan was enchanted by the delightful variety of squirrels he encountered in Thailand. Unfortunately, he later discovered that most of them were just various subspecies and phases of Finlayson’s Squirrel, otherwise known as the Variable Squirrel.

Ethan doesn’t know what this little guy’s deal is but he doesn’t think he likes it.

This guy, the Javan Sureli, is by far the best non-avian Ethan saw. There are fewer than 1,000 of these vulnerable fellows left in the wild.

Ethan went to Komodo Island for the birds but while he was there he saw this juvenile Komodo Dragon hiding in a tree to avoid being cannibalized.

The baby probably didn’t need to be that worried however as the nearby adult was super chill. Suspiciously so. After posing for some photos with tourists, it crawled over to a tree and just licked it for a while.

Eventually it tired itself out and went to sleep.
