Indonesia Update 3: The Togean Islands
To continue north Ethan had to take to the vengeful sea and cross the Gulf of Tomini where he stopped in the Togian Archipelago and predictably got distracted, this time by fish. Even so he managed to do a bit of birding but this might be a shorter one.
Ethan saw all three endemics and has the proof here despite the images being of substandard quality, even for him.
Ethan got his best view yet of the Sulawesi Hanging-Parrot.
Ethan also finally got a decent picture of Sultan’s Cuckoo-Dove.
Ethan got a few water type birds like the Sunda Teal and Great-Billed Heron to booster his Sulawesi list.
This Yellow-Sided Flowerpecker must be into the bird equivalent of bestiality because when Ethan played the song of almost any bird, at least one of these guys would show up and get freaky.
Black-Naped Orioles caused a few momentary false alarms during the Search for the Golden-Bulbul.
Needing to find raptors is always stressful to Ethan because you usually just have to wait until one randomly flies by like this Sulawesi Honey-Buzzard did one day.
Ethan didn’t even need to call this Black Sunbird. It just sat there on its own.
Ethan summoned the endemic Tarsier. These ones where the worst yet and all seemed to have Joker scars on their mouths.
More than any other mammal on Sulawesi, Ethan wanted to see a Babirusa. As the mainland population has been decimated by African Swine Fever, he knew he would have to do it in the Togians. Fortunately, his dream came true.
Ethan came to find the Babirusa many times. The Babirusa was a coconut fiend and was often ornery but Ethan still loved him. What a majestic Deer-Pig!
